Set in an Ecological reserva providing a stunning natural environment. The course has committed to maintain and improve the local ecology level through an ongoing process of research and development for sustainability. The gently undulating 18 holes course blends several lakes, streams and indigenous planting add to the enrichment and biodiversity of the area. The Espiche golf course is surrounded by open countryside and vineyards with views to the Monchique Mountains in the distance.Using the last innovations in term of grass types, Espiche course is a vivid shade of green during summer, while in mid-winter it goes a browner green. This is due to the fact that it lays dormant during the season of maximum rainfall when the temperatures are lower. The grass changes it´s colour but not it´s playability. By not needing to be fertilized or watered during the winter season the grasses on the fairways act in harmony with the existing landscape by helping to reduce run off, stop erosion, and in the sustainability and replenishment of the aquifer. This ensures a playable sustainable golf course that is environmentally compatible and enriching to the existing Western Algarvian Mediterranean landscape.
